The Art of AWS

The Art of AWS is a social media campaign that showcases AWS technologies through bespoke, editorial-style animations. By hiring a different artist each month, I brought new, scroll-stopping creative to our social channels and illustrated how AWS powers the future of technology.

This is a campaign I initiated and owned after I saw the clear benefit illustrations like these had on our customers; the unique artwork engaged audiences and brought new perspectives on complex concepts and tools. After pitching the campaign to leadership and receiving approval and funding, I hired freelance illustrators, provided art direction and animated the work, and managed technical reviews from our product marketing organization.

With so much great creative from some of the best illustrators around the world, this campaign was a joy to make.

AWS Inferentia and AWS Trainium are both microchips that power generative AI. Curi’s use of patterns and endless repetition shows the exponential power of the chips.

ARTIST

Amazon Titan and Amazon Bedrock both provide tools and foundation models for generative AI applications that can easily be added to customers’ products. The abacus speaks to Titan’s ability to turn everyday language into a numerical language and back again, and the building blocks of Bedrock represent the product as a basis for everything gen AI.

ARTIST

Amazon SageMaker and Amazon CodeWhisperer both increase the security of customers’ data as they build machine learning applications. Feng used glowing rectangles to represent code and pathways.

One benefit of social media is the immediate feedback – either good or bad – so when people say they like something, we have to give them more.

ARTIST

AWS Skill Builder has a vast array of learning tools – including tutorials, webinars, exams, and games – that helps users dive deeper into cloud technology. Cummins’ characters interact with the tools in unique and metaphorical ways, either by working so fast it feels like racing or by leafing through seemingly endless amounts of knowledge.

ARTIST

The AWS Cloud Institute provides year-long instruction to fast track a non-tech person into a rewarding career in cloud technology. Pereira’s characters capture the cohorts’ eager energy and desire to explore and experiment.

ARTIST

AWS Certifications are industry recognized credentials that help employees showcase their knowledge and get hired into new cloud roles. Conn uses a vast array of diagrams and graphs to highlight the powerful influence data engineers have on an organization, and he uses the hexagonal symbol of an AWS certificate as the basis for his second work.
